REM Sleep was founded in Austin, Texas in 2006. We received our national accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) in 2008. The AASM is a professional medical association representing practitioners of sleep medicine and sleep research, dedicated to the assurance of quality care for patients with sleep disorders, advancement of sleep research, and public and professional education. We perform our diagnostic sleep studies in accordance with the highest standards in our field. Our parent company, Home Respiratory, provides respiratory and sleep medical equipment, including CPAP machines, BiPAP machines, oxygen equipment, and nebulizers.
Home Respiratory and REM Sleep Centers are owned by MD Cress Ventures, a national firm that owns, operates and advises companies within the healthcare sector. We have a highly qualified leadership team with over 50 years of combined healthcare experience.
Michael Cress is a Managing Partner of MD Cress Ventures and also serves as Chairman of MD Cress & Associates. Prior to MD Cress & Associates, LLC he served as the President and CEO of the Cornerstone Healthcare Group, which owns and manages hospitals throughout the country. He also served as Vice President of Business Development for Kindred Healthcare, a $7B publicly traded healthcare company that owns and operates hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation, pharmacy and other segments of the healthcare continuum. He served as the CEO of Vencor Hospital of San Diego and was also an Adjunct Professor for the Masters of Healthcare Administration program at the University of Kansas.
Currently, Michael serves on several not-for-profit boards including Rachel’s Challenge, Lift Up America and The Neighborhood. He also serves on advisory boards for several companies including Linley Capital, Sleep Research, Prista Corporation and Trusted Care. Michael is published and has been a national speaker on numerous healthcare business and clinical topics. Michael is an avid surfer and enjoys high altitude climbing.
Jim is a Managing Partner at MD Cress Ventures, with over 20 years of experience in the investment banking industry. His experience includes private equity transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and investment advisory services. Jim is experienced in negotiating transactions, managing and assisting companies with raising equity and debt funds from private and public capital markets.
Prior to joining MD Cress & Associates, Jim founded Commerce Group, LLC, a Texas based M&A advisory firm that specializes in advising small and medium-sized businesses. He was also a Principal at Mastodon Ventures, Managing Director of Investment Banking at RiverStone Wealth Management, and Director of Corporate Finance at Oxford Financial Group. Jim began his Investment Banking career at Morgan Stanley and his formal education was at the University of Texas at Austin.
Jim has co-founded several local charities and currently serves on the board of Song Writing With Soldiers, and First House, Inc. He is an avid mountain bike rider and a supporter of University of Texas athletics.
Ryan is a Managing Partner at MD Cress Ventures. Prior to MD Cress Ventures he co-founded ProvidaCare, an Austin-based company specializing in sleep and respiratory equipment. ProvidaCare was started with one focus: to improve clinical and financial outcomes in patients that have chronic diseases. Ryan has grown the organization from one location to eight across Central Texas and Minnesota. ProvidaCare is a leader in the home medical industry, offering cutting edge home monitoring technology and disease management.
Ryan has demonstrated excellence in the areas of operations, business development and leadership. Ryan has an extensive working knowledge of the home medical equipment industry, government and private payers and healthcare reform. Prior to ProvidaCare Ryan spent three and half years with a national home medical equipment company where he held roles as a sales representative and area manager. He also spent 7 years as a professional baseball player with the New York Mets organization. Ryan enjoys Chicago Bears football, listening to live music, and coaching his 9-year old son’s baseball team.
Larry Spector has spent the last 35 years in the field of home respiratory care. During his career he has built one of the most successful home respiratory and durable medical equipment (DME) companies. He has also been actively involved with Texas State University for the past 12 years as a part-time faculty instructor for the Respiratory Department and a University Ambassador. He is currently the chairman to the advisory board for the Respiratory Therapy Department within the College of Allied Health Science. Larry helped start a two bed sleep lab located on the Texas State campus. This lab is a fully accredited IDTF serving the San Marcos,Tx community and is the only university based teaching facility in the country where students can earn master level degree credits.
Larry served as National Sales Manager for Prax Air before founding REM Sleep Center, Home Respiratory and Total Respiratory Inc. Larry has been published in respiratory journals and is the author of the Home Oxygen Therapy Module for the University of Texas Nursing School.
